Dan Murphy

“Murph”

I entered the Naval Academy from Irving, Texas as a graduate of the Dallas Jesuit Preparatory School. After graduation and following Naval flight training, I served in the US Navy for 20 years as a Patrol Plane pilot/ASW specialist and Naval Training Specialist.  Following retirement in 1995 I spent 17 years teaching the Navy Junior ROTC program in Texas. After retiring for the second time, Pat and I bought a summer retirement home in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on the Hiawatha Sportsman Club where we escape the Texas heat.  Pat and I have been married for 49 years following our chance meeting at the Philadelphia Officer’s Club during my second-class year at USNA. We have 2 daughters and five grandchildren all who live near us in the Dallas area. My hobbies and interests include fishing, snow skiing, sailing, woodworking, and helping my local community. I am a member of the Knights of Columbus and past grand Knight of Council 8157 in Duncanville, Texas. I am riding in the Gulf to Goat bike adventure to help raise awareness and to support those charities that are closely tied to our classmates. I am looking forward to this physical challenge, to sharing the camaraderie of our like-minded classmates, and to continuing a friendly roommate tradition of: “If you will I will”
