W.A. “Butch” Hansen ‘75
I entered USNA from Parkville, Maryland and remained in the Navy for 30 more years as a submarine officer, serving on 4 SSNs, including command, and then commanding an SSBN squadron. Upon leaving the Navy, I transitioned to the government consulting profession in Washington, DC and eventually settled in Pensacola, Florida. My wife Lee and I have 5 children, and 16 grandchildren. My children have all served in the military, are still serving, or were a military spouse, and my oldest grandchild will be commissioned in the Navy nuclear program in May 2025. We love traveling the world and will reach our 7th continent in February 2025! I have helped to found 2 non-profit corporations that support veteran interests and my other hobbies and passions include golf, cycling, woodworking, and community advocacy. I’m riding in G2G in order to honor all that I have served with, especially my family, and to raise awareness of kidney disease (my wife is a transplant recipient), the benefits of physical fitness and to show my support for our brotherhood of ‘75 Classmates along with the legacy of USNA ’75, past, present, and future.
